Atlético Madrid are resigned to losing Thomas Partey, with the Premier League the likely destination, according to Cadena COPE.

The news will come as a blow to Atleti fans as the fate of their defensive midfielder has been the subject of huge speculation over the last few weeks. With contract talks breaking down, Partey’s €50m buyout clause has had other European heavyweights circling with intent, and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are the most likely suitors.

Antonio Ruiz, host on the football show Tiempo de Juego acknowledged: “Within Atlético’s ranks there is something of a resignation about Thomas. His destination could well be the Premier League and Arsenal seem to be the team best placed.”

Boss Diego Simeone has made it clear that he wants to hang on to the Ghanaian, trying to thrash out a new deal for him, with a reported doubling of his current €70,000 per week wage. But with Partey’s head being turned, the reachability of the buyout clause and Arsenal’s midfield crying out for a player of his quality, this could the beginning of a farewell to the talented midfielder.
