The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are readying a fresh offensive to secure the long-term future of defensive star Marc Pubill.
This comes amid the understanding that the Rojiblancos are prepared to return to the negotiating table with a new-and-improved contract offer.
Stopper Pubill has for his part spent the early weeks of the new campaign solidifying his status as one of the first names on the team sheet of manager Diego Simeone.
Across Atléti’s eight fixtures between La Liga and the Champions League, the 23-year-old has featured from the off in six, and off the bench in another.
Not only that, but Pubill is now considered an important member of the Spanish national team setup, too.
It should therefore come as little surprise to learn of those in a position of power at the Metropolitano working to ensure that the former Almería talent’s future remains firmly tied to Atlético.
As per a report from Spanish football insider Matteo Moretto:
‘Atlético de Madrid wants to seal the contract renewal of Marc Pubill before the year ends. The club has already presented a first offer, but it’s going to present a second one: Atlético wants to keep him and the player prioritizes Atlético.
‘The club will increase his salary and extend his contract.’
