Atlético Madrid open talks with Valencia for Carlos Soler

Atlético Madrid are holding talks with Valencia for midfielder Carlos Soler, according to Valencia-based journalist Héctor Gómez.

Valencia need to sell and Soler is a player that Diego Simeone has liked for a long time. Golsmedia report that Atlético have been in contact with the player for weeks and they are now in talks with Valencia, who have sacked manager José Bordalás.

Gonçalo Guedes and Soler are the two departures that agent Jorge Mendes is currently managing. Valencia have not been able to reach an agreement to extend Soler’s stay at the club despite open negotiations since September and now they need to sell the player before he can leave on a free.

In January Juventus, the other club interested in Soler, along with Barcelona, asked about the player, with Valencia valuing him at €40 million. Los Che are confident of getting €25-30 million for Soler, but the market suggests that the amount could be lower.

Atlético have started talks with a fee of €15 million in mind plus the option of introducing a player into the deal, but that seems out of the question right now as Valencia need the revenue.

Soler has repeated during the season that he would like to stay at Mestalla, but the current state of the club and the recent events have made him seriously consider leaving.

New manager Gennaro Gattuso is not counting on him as a starter because he has been told that he is going to be sold.

Atlético are best placed right now to sign the Spain international.
