Atlético Madrid name squad for Inter clash, with Álvaro Morata included

Spanish giants Atlético Madrid have this afternoon unveiled the club’s travelling squad, for their upcoming trip to Italy.

Atlético, of course, are primed to turn their attentions back towards matters on the continent in midweek.

After securing a return to winning ways in La Liga on Saturday, courtesy of a five-goal drubbing of Las Palmas, Diego Simeone’s troops will make the trip to Milan on Tuesday, for the first leg of the club’s Champions League Last-16 tie with Inter.

The Nerazzurri are in the midst of a scintillating stretch of form at present, fresh off eight successive wins across all competitions.

It therefore goes without saying that Atléti will need to be at their best, if they hope to depart San Siro with a positive result to hold onto for the tie’s 2nd leg.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a boost for all associated with the Rojiblancos, just 24 hours out from the clash, to hear of their side being afforded a surprise boost on the personnel front.

As alluded to above, the squad of players primed to make the trip to Italy later tonight was unveiled across Atlético’s website and social media platforms a short time ago.

And the headline takeaway, without question, comes in the form of the inclusion of Álvaro Morata.

Frontman Morata, for his part, picked up an injury last weekend, forced into a premature departure from his side’s meeting with Sevilla owing to what was later confirmed to be a ‘bone contusion injury and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament in his right knee’.

As much was expected to keep the 31-year-old sidelined for somewhere between two and three weeks.

After his presence in group training on Sunday confirmed that Morata was well ahead of schedule in his recovery, though, he has since proven himself sufficiently fit to join his teammates on the flight to Milan.
