Atlético Madrid have become the third La Liga club to announce an ERTE – Spain’s temporary redundancy scheme – to reduce club costs. Barcelona and Espanyol have already implemented the new action, putting the financial concerns of their clubs first amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Club CEO Gil Marin stated the decision was brought about to “guarantee the club’s survival.” 500 employees at the Madrid-based club will be affected by the decision with players, staff and club employees expected to see a 70% reduction in salaries.
