The brass at Atlético Madrid have on Friday evening continued to ramp up their tirade against La Liga rivals Barcelona.
This comes by way of a dig at the Blaugrana over the controversial ‘Negreira Case’, which saw the Camp Nou hierarchy charged with corruption owing to a string of payments to José María Enríquez Negreira, former president of Spain’s referees’ committee.
Atlético have of course dominated the headlines across Europe over the course of the evening to date.
After evidently becoming fed up with the latest round of reports linking star striker Julián Alvarez with a move to Barcelona, the Rojiblancos unveiled a series of stinging posts across social media.
These included fake transfer rumours of their own, based around fabricated offers for Barca stars Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Raphinha.
And as alluded to above, those behind the social media accounts in Spain’s capital were not even close to done there…
In their harshest post yet, Atléti have again targeted the Barcelona brass as well as the Catalan press at large, questioning the Spanish champions’ ‘respect and values’ courtesy of a dig regarding the aforementioned Negreira Case:
‘Atlético de Madrid would never do something like that. However, in recent months, we’ve been suffering a smear campaign against one of our players. Leaked information with ulterior motives, ‘fake news,’ constant disrespect, the culé version of the propaganda machine inventing little stories, calls before direct matchups… But of course, it wouldn’t occur to us either to have the referees’ vice president on our payroll or to resort to political favours to register players. RESPECT and VALUES.’
