Atlético Madrid dealt injury blow ahead of Dortmund return leg

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this afternoon been dealt a blow on the personnel front.

As much came during the club’s meeting with Girona.

Diego Simeone’s troops are of course currently locked in action, in a crunch fixture in the race for European football in Spain’s top-flight.

And it is the Rojiblancos who currently boast the advantage on the scoreboard.

As much comes with an Antoine Griezmann brace, either side of Ángel Correa’s strike, having guided the capital outfit into a 3-1 lead over Girona at the Wanda Metropolitano.

And yet, as alluded to above, an otherwise positive afternoon’s work to date for Atlético has been soured to at least some extent by a blow on the injury front.

Late in the first-half, Saúl Ñíguez pulled up with what appeared to be a muscular concern.

The midfielder, unable to carry on, was in turn quickly hauled off for Álvaro Morata.

Just three days out from Atléti’s Champions League quarter-final 2nd-leg showdown with Borussia Dortmund, Saúl’s availability has been thrown firmly up in the air.
