Atlético Madrid dealt heavy injury blow

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Monday been dealt some altogether unwanted news on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that Pablo Barrios is in line for an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Midfielder Barrios was for his part over the weekend sent back to base in Madrid by the Spanish U21 medical staff.

As much came as a precaution, amid what was at the time labelled as a bout of ‘muscular overload’ on the part of the talented youngster.

Barrios, in turn, underwent a round of medical scans back in Spain’s capital on Monday.

And, unfortunately, the results have proven far from encouraging.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing Relevo, the 21-year-old – who has featured from the off in three of Atlético’s four La Liga outings this season – has suffered a torn muscle.

Barrios, as a result, is expected to be sidelined for a period of around three weeks.
