Atlético Madrid are close to agreeing a deal with Manchester City to sign striker Julián Álvarez.
As reported by David Ornstein, total agreement is yet to be reached however talks are beginning to proceed into the final stages. There is growing optimism that a deal can be closed with negotiations over the final price and payment structure now taking place.
Talks between the two clubs began last week, when the La Liga side sent a formal enquiry to the reigning Premier League champions for the Argentine. Significant progress has now been made and it appears that manager Diego Simeone will get his dream target for the forward position.
Although a fee is yet to be agreed, the total package is expected to significantly surpass the €17m City paid River Plate for the 24-year-old back in January of 2022. Álvarez wants to leave Manchester in search of regular minutes with his pathway at City blocked by the world-class Erling Haaland.
The Argentina international is desperate to move to the Spanish capital and therefore personal terms are not expected to be an issue. During his time at City, he has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
Furthermore, he also played a starring role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar in 2022.
