Atlético Madrid call out Spanish Police for misleading social media post featuring their stadium

The Spanish Police posted a tweet this morning about El Clasico and the fact that three fans at the Bernabéu had been arrested for xenophobic chanting during the match.

The only problem? The photo included in the post was of Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.

Atlético Madrid are understandably upset at this and have made their feelings known on their own social media page.

They called out the Police account before saying, ‘We’ll give you a hand. The people you have arrested are fans of another team from Madrid. The stadium in the photo you published is ours and has nothing to do with this matter. I’m sure it’s just a mistake.’

Atlético Madrid included a screenshot of the offending post in their tweet, taken before the police account had the chance to delete and reupload their own post.

It is likely that the person managing the Police’s X account simply is uninterested in football and didn’t realise the mistake they were making, but surely it wouldn’t have been too difficult to run this past someone else before clicking the post button?
