Atlético Madrid announce squad to face Benfica, featuring one major absence

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Tuesday unveiled the club’s travelling squad for their return to action, on Wednesday night.

Diego Simeone’s troops are primed to kick the club’s European campaign back into gear in a little over 24 hours’ time.

As much comes in the form of a Champions League showdown with Portuguese heavyweights Benfica, set to play out at the The Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.

Atlético’s efforts to make it two wins from two to open their campaign on the continent, however, will come sans the services of one key member of boss Simeone’s backline.

A short time ago, the Rojiblancos unveiled their travelling squad bound for Lisbon across the club’s social media channels.

And one head-turning absence was quickly noted, in the form of that of summer signing Robin Le Normand:

Defender Le Normand finished Sunday’s Madrid Derby in evident discomfort, ushered from the field of play on the back of a clash of heads with Aurélien Tchouaméni.

And, clearly, the Spanish international is yet to fully recover from as much.

As per an accompanying statement released by Atléti on Tuesday afternoon:

‘Le Normand is not with the team as a result of the blow he suffered in the derby against Real Madrid and is undergoing tests by specialists.’
