Atlético Madrid announce classy gesture for fans set to travel to Borussia Dortmund clash

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this afternoon confirmed that they intend to help the club’s supporters finance their travels, for the Rojiblancos’ upcoming showdown with Borussia Dortmund.

Atlético, of course, discovered their fate on the continent late last week.

After sending Serie A table-toppers Inter Milan packing from the competition’s Round-of-16, Diego Simeone’s troops were rewarded with a Champions League quarter-final showdown with the aforementioned Dortmund.

The tie is set to play out over the week between April 10th and 16th, with the 2nd leg having been pencilled in for the latter date, at Signal Iduna Park.

Long dependent on their side’s loyal fanbase to provide an extra boost on European away days, it therefore marked a source of concern for those behind the scenes at the Wanda Metropolitano to this week learn of the Atléti faithful majorly struggling in efforts to organise their travel to Germany for next month.

This comes with flights proving to be outlandishly expensive.

On Wednesday, the powers that be in Spain’s capital, in turn, have moved to afford a helping hand.

In a statement released this afternoon, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Atlético confirmed their intention to organise chartered flights at a ‘very significant discount’ for members of the club’s official supporter’s group:

“The club is aware of the great difficulty that our fans are having in finding transfers at an affordable price. For this reason, and once again placing member status as a great beneficiary of advantages and discounts throughout the season, charter flights will be chartered where members will have a very significant discount. In this way, we want to thank the incredible support that the team receives in all our trips, where our members come making great efforts.”
