Atlético left perplexed by Real Madrid’s Bernabéu roof decision ahead of derby

The powers that be at Atlético Madrid have been left altogether confused by a decision made by their counterparts on the white half of the Spanish capital, ahead of the showdown between the clubs later tonight.

The latest edition of the Madrid Derby, of course, is set to play out in short order.

In the knowledge that a victory would see them open up a four-point advantage atop the La Liga table, Real are set to play host to Diego Simeone’s troops, at the Santiago Bernabéu.

And, as alluded to above, with hours yet to run before kick-off, the mind games already appear to have begun.

This comes amid confirmation that the Real Madrid brass have informed La Liga of their decision to close the roof at the Bernabéu for this evening’s fixture.

That’s according to Marca, who have also revealed that Atlético have been left utterly perplexed by the move.

The Rojiblancos view the call as a ‘strange’ one, based on the fact that favourable weather conditions of around 11 degrees, with no rain, are expected in Madrid on Sunday.

And yet, the night’s hosts are completely within their rights to set their stadium up as they see fit, amid murmurs that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad favour the Bernabéu atmosphere with the roof closed.
