Atlético boss Diego Simeone: ‘Real Madrid will continue to be the best…’

Comments laid out by Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone have turned heads across the Spanish football landscape on Friday.

As much comes after the Argentine revealed his take that arch rivals Real Madrid’s dominance is unlikely to come to an end any time soon.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real, of course, made short work of the competition in La Liga this season.

With 29 wins and just a solitary defeat on the board from 37 outings, Los Blancos boast a 12-point advantage atop the table, a further nine points clear of Atlético in 4th.

And yet, just a solitary victory away from a domestic and European double, the capital heavyweights only look set to strengthen with a view to next season.

With Endrick already in the bag, and Kylian Mbappé on the way, Real Madrid remain interested in the likes of Alphonso Davies, and Leny Yoro.

Safe to say, then, that the rest of Spanish football’s top clubs will have their work cut out for them, in knocking Ancelotti and co. off their perch.

And one individual who seemingly has little hope of as much happening any time soon, comes in the form of the aforementioned Diego Simeone.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday ahead of his side’s season finale at the weekend, Atléti boss Simeone revealed his opinion that Real Madrid ‘will continue to be’ world football’s gold standard through 2024/25, and potentially beyond:

“We can be champions, but only when Real Madrid fails. They are the best team in the world and will continue to be.”
