Athletic Club receive Unai Simón boost

La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Friday been afforded a welcome boost on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that goalkeeper Unai Simón has taken to the pitch for group training for the first time this season.

Shot-stopper Simón, for his part, has been sidelined since all the way back in July.

As much comes after the 27-year-old, fresh off playing a starring role for the triumphant Spanish squad at Euro 2024, was forced under the knife to repair a wrist injury.

Simón had been spotted back out on the grass for individual drills over recent weeks, but was yet to link up with his teammates at the Lezama facilities.

That is, until today…

As per a report from Relevo:

‘This Friday, Simón took another step in the final stretch of his recovery, working for the first time with apparent normality
alongside the other two goalkeepers of the first team, Julen Agirrezabala and Alex Padilla, under the orders of the goalkeeping coach, Aitor Iru.’

Simón’s return to the pitch, in turn, can be considered as inching ever closer.
