La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Wednesday been dealt a considerable blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that a key member of the club’s midfield ranks will be unavailable for selection in their European curtain-raiser.
Ernesto Valverde’s troops are set to turn their attentions towards matters on the continent on Thursday, in a Europa League Matchday 1 meeting with Italian heavyweights AS Roma.
In efforts to get their continental campaign up and running in positive fashion, however, Athletic will be forced to make do without one key performer.
This comes with Oihan Sancet, fresh off a fine opening to the season in La Liga, having been omitted from the Basque outfit’s travelling squad.
As per a statement across Athletic’s website and social media platforms, the 24-year-old’s last-minute absence comes due to ‘an overload in the left hamstring muscles’.
In more positive news for Los Leones, Nico Williams, fresh off his own spell on the sidelines, has been passed fit for Thursday.
