Aston Villa in talks with Real Betis for Álex Moreno

Aston Villa are working to sign Real Betis left-back Álex Moreno, according to journalist Matteo Moretto of Spanish outlet Relevo.

Villa boss Unai Emery wants to sign the 29-year-old attacking full-back to strengthen his squad for the second half of the 2022-23 season.

According to Diario de Sevilla, Betis have been working for some time now to cover the potential departure of Moreno.

Among the names who could come in as a replacement is Rayo Vallecano’s Fran García, who was scouted recently. Manu Sánchez of Osasuna is another possible option for the left-back role.

Other names recently linked to Betis, including Roma’s Matías Viña, have not been considered by the club.

Moreno was close to joining Nottingham Forest in the summer but ended up staying at Betis, with head coach Manuel Pellegrini playing an important role in his decision.

Forest signed Atlético Madrid’s Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi on loan but have struggled in their first season back in the Premier League.
