Arsenal poach Real Madrid scout

Real Madrid have this week been forced to bid farewell to a highly thought of member of the club’s backroom staff.

The individual in question comes in the form of Paulo Xavier.

Xavier, for his part, had acted as Real Madrid’s Latin America scout since all the way back in September of 2017.

As confirmed by Blancos insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, though, he has now officially called time on his stint in Spain’s capital, to take up a similar role with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

In fact, Xavier’s role in north London has ‘already begun’, after Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar made use of his close relationship with the talent spotter to convince him to link up with Mikel Arteta’s side.

Xavier actually has prior experience working in England, having enjoyed a brief stint on the books of Manchester United prior to linking up with Real Madrid.

His departure marks the 2nd important one from Juni Calafat’s scouting department over the course of recent months, after Gonzalo Novillo opted to join La Liga rivals Real Betis.
