Another Real Madrid star set for ‘imminent’ contract renewal

A high-profile member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is all set to put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club.

That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto of Relevo, who points towards Lucas Vázquez as being the player in question.

Versatile right-back Vázquez has of course played an increasingly prominent role in Real Madrid’s backline over the course of recent weeks.

Afforded a chance to impress owing to a combination of suspension and fitness woes on the part of first-choice Blancos right-back Dani Carvajal, Spanish international Vázquez has stepped up to the plate, and then some.

Never was this more evident than two weekends ago, when the 32-year-old bagged both a goal and an assist en route to El Clásico victory over Barcelona.

And, evidently, as much has proven enough to convince those behind the scenes of Vázquez’s worthiness of a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for next season, too.

As per a report from the aforementioned Relevo, the stopper and Real Madrid are currently in the process of finalising an agreement on the terms of a new contract.

This comes with Vázquez’s current deal due to expire in the summer.

‘Between Lucas Vázquez and Real Madrid there is a principle of agreement regarding the renewal; The negotiation is not closed, but it is about to be finalized. The parties are polishing the last details and we can say that the good ending is imminent,’ it is confirmed.
