Andoni Iraola to leave Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season

Andoni Iraola will leave Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season, according to Relevo.

The club’s head coach has made the decision to depart Vallecas and has communicated the news directly to his players. The Basque tactician had a new proposal from Rayo on the table, however, he rejected it and his successful stint in Vallecas will come to an end.

In his spell at Rayo, Iraola achieved promotion to the top flight and spent two seasons in Primera. The former Athletic Club player said no to Leeds United’s offer midway through the season and he is now assessing his next role.

Rayo will now start looking for a replacement for Iraola and three names have been mentioned: Francisco (ex Almería, Girona and Elche), Pacheta (ex Real Valladolid) and Joseba Etxeberria (currently at Mirandés).

The Madrid-based club are also set to lose key players Fran García (Real Madrid), Santi Comesaña (Villarreal) and Alejandro Catena (Osasuna) this summer.
