Last night Rayo Vallecano defeated Almería 1-0 in the 20th round of La Liga, helping the Madrid-based side to move up to fifth in the standings.
In his post-match interview that appeared on Marca, Andoni Iraola was asked about Rayo Vallecano’s position in the league:
“The 32 points matter to me above all. There is very little difference in positional terms, but the 32 points are already ours. We still have a lot of games left and we’re in a good position. We have to compete game by game and then the standings will put you in your place.”
“In general, we perform better when we are under pressure and in need. It’s up to me to transmit that need or ambition to give that performance more continuously,” he added.
The Basque coach was also asked about his development as a coach:
“Football belongs to the players. They are the ones who make us look better. I have players who are showing a great level. We are heading in the right direction, but I am aware of my role.”
Rayo Vallecano play Getafe next weekend.
