Ander Herrera set for return to Athletic Club

Ander Herrera is set to return to Athletic Club, the club he played 128 games for between 2011 and 2014.

According to Marca, Herrera will join as a free agent and sign until 2024, although the contract is likely to include a possible extension if a number of conditions are met.

The player, 33, will return to La Liga, a league in which he has already played for Zaragoza and Athletic. Herrera has been free to leave since PSG told him weeks ago that they no longer counted on him.

Herrera considered the offer from Athletic and gave the go-ahead to enter talks regarding a move.

As reported by French outlet L’Équipe, Herrera and PSG have been negotiating the termination of his contract that ties the midfielder to the French club until 2024 in exchange for €6 million net per year.

Herrera is due €16 million net, €12 million net for his two-year contract, and €4 million net for the 40 percent transfer fee agreed when he joined from Manchester United for free in 2019.

The agreement is “imminent”, according to L’Équipe. As soon as the talks are concluded, Athletic will act.

Herrera has not wanted to listen to other offers. Athletic is his priority as soon as he leaves PSG, according to what he communicated to the club.
