Real Madrid full-back Álvaro Odriozola is set to end an unhappy time at the Santiago Bernabéu by returning to his native San Sebastián and re-joining Real Sociedad.
According to AS, Odriozola’s departure from the Spanish capital has already been confirmed, as he will follow Marco Asensio, Mariano Diaz and Eden Hazard out the exit door. MARCA, meanwhile are reporting that his first club, Real Sociedad, are set to resign the 27-year-old.
With Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho – all of whom are Odriozola’s seniors – all ahead of him in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order, it is believed that he is searching for more game time and Los Blancos are not intending of standing in his way.
Odriozola made just six appearances last season, playing 92 minutes of football. He made three appearances in La Liga and his only start came in the Copa del Rey against Cacereño.
Five years on from joining Real Madrid from Real Sociedad for €32m, he looks set to depart with 49 appearances to his name, fewer than the 57 he accumulated for La Real after breaking into the first team in 2017. He played five times for Bayern Munich on loan in 2020 and 27 times on loan at Fiorentina in the 2021-22 campaign.
