Álvaro Morata to return from injury before the World Cup

Atlético Madrid suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cádiz in the 12th round of La Liga on Saturday, during which Álvaro Morata suffered an injury.

The 30-year-old had to be substituted in the first half due to a discomfort he felt in his ankle. Morata was clearly distraught about the situation whilst receiving treatment on the pitch as the injury could have risked his chance of going to the World Cup in Qatar.

However, as reported by Marca, tests carried out by the club’s medical staff confirmed that the injury is not as serious as initially thought and he could return to action before the season pauses for the international break.

Nonetheless, Morata will not recover before Los Colchoneros’ crucial game against Porto midweek that could decide whether they qualify for the Europa League or not and he did not train with the rest of the team yesterday either.
