Álvaro Morata speaks out on Atlético Madrid future

Atlético Madrid star Álvaro Morata has on Monday provided a fresh insight into his future beyond the summer.

As much, of course, comes amid long-standing speculation pointing towards a potential exit for the frontman.

Morata is for his part fresh off something of a frustrating campaign in Spain’s capital, which saw a stellar opening to things in front of goal followed by a lengthy dry spell over the term’s final months.

Such inconsistencies have given rise to fresh rumours that the brass at the Wanda Metropolitano would be open to sending the former Juventus and Real Madrid man on his way this summer.

Morata even appeared to bid farewell to the Atlético faithful, on the back of the club’s final home outing of the season against Osasuna.

Speaking to the media whilst on international duty with Spain this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to Morata himself once more.

And, in quotes sourced by Mundo Deportivo, the 31-year-old began:

“I don’t think about it. I know there will surely be things but it’s not something I think about now. During the Euros, I only think about playing in the national team shirt and when it’s over I’ll think about that.”

Asked directly if he expects to remain an Atlético Madrid player into next season, Morata added: “It depends.”

“Last year I had a conversation with the coach and in the end things go one way or another but I don’t know what is going to happen,” Spain’s captain concluded.
