Álvaro Morata hands Atlético Madrid a surprise boost ahead of Inter showdown

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have been afforded a surprise boost on the personnel front, ahead of their impending meeting with Inter Milan.

Atlético, of course, are primed to turn their attentions back towards matters on the continent in midweek.

After securing a return to winning ways in La Liga on Saturday, courtesy of a five-goal drubbing of Las Palmas, Diego Simeone’s troops will make the trip to Milan on Tuesday, for the first leg of the club’s Champions League Last-16 tie with Inter.

The Nerazzurri are in the midst of a scintillating stretch of form at present, fresh off eight successive wins across all competitions.

Safe to say, then, that Atléti will require all the help that they can get in efforts to emerge from San Siro with a positive result.

In turn, news of a key member of Simeone’s ranks returning to training this weekend will no doubt be met with widespread glee on the part of the club’s supporters.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Álvaro Morata joined the rest of his teammates in preparations for Inter in Madrid on Sunday.

Frontman Morata, for his part, picked up an injury last weekend, forced into a premature departure from his side’s meeting with Sevilla owing to what was later confirmed to be a ‘bone contusion injury and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament in his right knee’.

As much was expected to keep the 31-year-old sidelined for somewhere between two and three weeks.

Evidently, though, Morata is well ahead of schedule in his recovery.

Having remained in light individual training over the last couple of days, the former Chelsea and Juventus man linking back up with the rest of Diego Simeone’s squad means that a real chance exists that he could yet be available to feature against Inter Milan.
