Almería stun league leaders Barcelona in La Liga

Almería stunned league leaders Barcelona in La Liga on Sunday night.

The Andalusian side lost 6-2 away to Girona last week and Barcelona were knocked out of the Europa League in Old Trafford on Thursday night.

The Catalan side had only conceded seven goals in La Liga going into the game – the best defensive record in Europe’s top five leagues.

Forward El Bilal Touré scored the only goal of the game as Almería picked up a crucial 1-0 win that moves them out of the relegation zone.

After Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Atlético Madrid on Saturday, it was a chance for the Blaugrana to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

Almería make history

In the 86th minute Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo headed just wide as the Catalans looked for an equaliser.

Almería have made history with the victory as it was the first time in their history that they have beaten Barcelona.

Barça face Real Madrid next. They take on their rivals in the Copa del Rey at the Bernabéu on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, they remain seven points clear of Los Blancos in La Liga.
