Alavés boss Luis García speaks out on contract renewal talks

Alavés head coach Luis García has this week provided an insight into the negotiations surrounding his potential contract renewal with the club.

The subject of tactician García’s position on the bench in Álava has long proven a central talking point amongst those of an Alavés persuasion.

As much comes ahead of the expiration of his current terms in the summer.

The Spaniard, for his part, has been widely lauded for his efforts on the touchline across the season to date, with a recent three-game win streak having guided Alavés to the impressive heights of mid-table in La Liga.

With such endeavours, though, has come inevitable speculation, too, amid alleged interest in his services from across the Spanish football landscape.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s La Liga meeting with high-flying Girona on Friday, García, in turn, was asked for the latest on his future.

And the 51-year-old appeared optimistic when it comes to the prospect of renewing his terms at Mendizorrotza:

“The club has followed the line it had set, that we sit down to talk after the objective was achieved,” García began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “We have sat down and we are going to talk. [It was a] very positive contact.

“I have met (sporting director) Sergio Fernández for the first time and we have talked about football, but everything has to follow its natural course.”

The tactician concluded:

“My family is the most important thing to me. I miss them, but I have been just as happy. The people of Vitoria have treated me with great affection from the first day. I have felt valued and that also weighs.”
