Ajax hoping to reunite Barcelona boss Xavi with former Blaugrana chief

The powers that be at Dutch giants Ajax are keen to reunite Barcelona head coach Xavi with a former member of the boardroom setup at the Camp Nou in Amsterdam this summer.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have today provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at Ajax.

After murmurs first began to surface on Tuesday that Xavi, primed to bring a close to his stint on the Barcelona bench in the summer, has been earmarked as a leading managerial target on the part of the brass at the Eredivisie outfit, it has since been reiterated that Ajax are indeed ‘thinking of Xavi to replace John van ‘t Schip’.

The Spaniard is understood to be held in high regard at The Johan Cruyff Arena, with Xavi’s football ideology aligning perfectly with that of the capital outfit.

And yet, as alluded to above, Barca’s departing headmaster is not the only individual with Blaugrana ties whom Ajax appear to be have set their sights on with a view to the summer.

As per the aforementioned Sport, a completely new-look sporting project is being planned in Amsterdam.

And with Xavi singled out as one candidate to lead as much from the sideline, Jordi Cruyff has been identified as an option to take the reins in the boardroom.

Cruyff, son of Ajax and Barca legend Johan, previously spent time acting as sporting director for the latter.

And his work in the role was highly appreciated by Ajax, who hope to take advantage of the close relationship between the Dutchman and Xavi to oversee a reunion for the 2024/25 campaign.

Much work remains to be done in efforts towards as much, but the sleeping Eredivisie heavyweights appear up to the task.
