An update on the wellbeing of three leading members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Monday been forthcoming.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport’s Sergi Capdevila, who, first, confirms a likely absentee for Barca’s opening fixture of the new campaign.
The player in question? Pedri.
Midfielder Pedri is of course sidelined at present, owing to a knee injury suffered whilst lining out for Spain at the European Championships.
Surprise claims had spread of late that the 21-year-old could return in time to feature in Barcelona’s La Liga season opener, against Valencia on August 17th.
According to Sport, however, as much is beginning to look increasingly unlikely:
‘Pedri will have a difficult time getting to Mestalla, but his knee recovery is going well. He should be there for the second day (of the season).
In more positive news for the Blaugrana, two other high-profile members of Hansi Flick’s squad, on the other hand, are expected to be ready to line out in Valencia in just shy of two weeks’ time.
Following their respective endeavours with Spain at the Euros, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres have returned to Catalunya’s capital early this week.
And the hope is that, with over a week of intense recovery work in the books, both will be ‘100% for the season debut’.
