1 in, 2 out: Barcelona injury latest before Las Palmas

An update on the injury situation at La Liga giants Barcelona has been forthcoming on Thursday evening.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and points towards a potential reshuffling being on the cards in Barca’s defensive ranks this weekend.

Xavi will of course guide his side back into action post-international break in a La Liga meeting with Las Palmas on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Blaugrana’s host of international stars to have departed for duty with their respective nations, in turn, linked back up in Catalunya’s capital for a preparatory training session.

Absent from the group to have been put through their paces, however, was Andreas Christensen.

Despite claims to the contrary in the media earlier in the day, it is understood that the Dane, forced to pull out of international duty owing to an Achilles problem, will likely sit out this weekend.

Also tipped to skip the Las Palmas clash, meanwhile, is defensive partner Ronald Araújo.

Stopper Araújo, for his part, did take part in group training on Thursday, after being afforded an early release from the Uruguay camp earlier this week.

But the 25-year-old, it is understood, is still struggling with a thigh concern, therefore viewed as unlikely to be risked on Saturday.

And as much could well open the door for another of Barcelona’s breakthrough young talents to take his place in the club’s next matchday squad.

Fresh off netting a stunning strike on his debut with the Senegalese national team over the break, Mika Faye was afforded a place in first-team training with the rest of Xavi’s squad on Thursday.

In the case of both Christensen and Araújo sitting out the upcoming round of fixtures, Faye, in turn, is highly likely to be called up against Las Palmas.
